Rapid growth in validated targets and active commitments, growing SME presence, yet slower progress in Scope 3 emissions. Our report sheds light on commitment to Science Based Targets in Finland, as well as progress in climate action.
This report provides a timely and data-driven overview of how Finnish companies are advancing their climate commitments under the Science Based Targets framework. It highlights progress, identifies remaining gaps, and offers insights for companies seeking to advance their climate strategies.
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) offers a globally recognized framework for setting emission reduction targets aligned with the Paris Agreement and grounded the latest climate science.
The number of Finnish companies with validated science-based targets has tripled between 2022 and 2024.
SMEs now make up nearly half of validated near-term targets. A tailored SBTi pathway has helped accelerate their participation.
The report relies on publicly available data. It analyses the science based targets and the Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions of 180 Finnish companies. The report provides an update to UN Global Compact Finland’s previous review published in May 2023.
The list of companies with validated targets and active commitments was obtained on the 5th of May 2025 from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)’s website. Companies that have active commitments or changes in company statuses and targets after the threshold date are not reflected in this report.
